  1. What is the main message of The Best Lawyer You Can Be?   
    Given the amount of stress in the profession often leading to substance abuse, mental / emotional breakdown, divorce and suicide lawyers need to pay attention to what are some tools, mindsets, benchmarks that will keep them fit and healthy while delivering the best they can for clients.

 

  1. Who is your book written for/ Who would get the most out of reading your book? 
    Anyone practicing law, entering the profession or people supporting or close to lawyers.

 

  1. What inspired you to write this book?
    An ABA Law Practice Division Wellbeing Committee Meeting.

 

  1. What experience, knowledge or special training helped you to write this book?  
    I have been thinking and writing about such things for many years and have looked closely at what the adversarial environment does to people chewed by by it.

 

  1. What problem faced by lawyers does your book solve/address?
    Because it’s such a stressfull profession, How to be a happy in life is the message throughout the book.

 

  1. How is The Best Lawyer You Can Be different from other books written on this topic?
    It is comprehensive and looks at the challenges through many lenses.

 

  1. What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
    Herding twenty-eight busy lawyer authors to get what they had to done. Mostly a labor of love.

 

  1. What do you think will surprise readers most about your book?
    Directing folks back to their roots as lawyers, there are remedies and the importance of systemic change. The idea that being more “relational” is the key to happy lawyering.

 

  1. What is the most important takeaway readers will get from your book?
    Mindfulness and awareness tools – doing the necessary self-assessment.

 

  1. What advice would you give to others who want to write a book for the Law Practice Division?
    It comes easy if you have a passion for what you are writing about.

Bio: Stewart Levine is the founder of ResolutionWorks, a consulting and training organization dedicated to providing skills and ways of thinking needed to build strong organizational cultures. He spent ten years practicing law before becoming an award-winning marketing executive serving the legal profession at AT&T where he was recognized as a pioneer “intrapreneur.”  He uses his approach to form teams and joint ventures in a variety of situations.  Stewart has worked with large and small law firms, legal departments and government agencies across the country.
